Designer Spotlight: Kristiina Lassus

Designer Spotlight: Kristiina Lassus

Finnish-born and Italian-based, Kristiina Lausus began her career in 2004 in art direction and product design. In 2007 she introduced Rugs by Kristiina Lassus, a collection of high-end, hand-knotted rugs, inspired by her love for materials, colors, and nature and distinctive for their graceful design and rich personality. An entrepreneur and a designer by nature, Kristiina supervises the development of each piece from her workshop in Milan, often taveling to Tibet to review their quality. She has won several international awards for her work, including two Red Dot Design Awards and a Green Good Award.

Kristiina Lassus draws strength and energy from both her interactions with the natural environment and those with other people. She credits a wide variety of stimuli with providing the energy that harmonizes her life and revitalizes her creative work; ranging from the atmospheric qualities of light and sound to the daily sensory experiences embodied in the feel of materials.  Kristiina is also deeply inspired by the energy and history of other cultures, from which she often borrows when imagining new designs for her own collection.

Kristiina Lassus' rugs are primary crafted in 100-knot-per-square-inch quality, with some also available in 80knot versions. This ancient technique of hand-knotting is prized for its quality and durability, truly allowing her work to stand apart. Rugs made with this technique last for decades, creating truly timeless family treasures.
